The Term that was......... |
Term 2 has drawn to a close and the school holidays provide a timely opportunity for the children, staff and parents to regroup, shrug off the winter blues in readiness for the final two terms of the school year. Life at Star of the Sea School has again been very full and we have a great deal to show for our endeavours.
As I flick through the pages of my diary, nearly every day of each week reveals a bounty of wonderful activities and experiences we have all enjoyed. School Disco, 80s Dress Up Day, Love in a Bag drive, Walk to School Day, NAPLAN testing, Netball Carnival and SAPSSASA events, Year 5 Camp, class excursions, Sportsman’s Night, Ladies Day, Reconciliation, class Masses and liturgies, trips to the local library and so much more.
For all of that has happened in, out and around the school this term, I would like to pass on my thanks to the staff and parents for their effort and commitment to ensuring that our students at Star of the Sea have such a breadth and choice of activities and programs. Well done to everyone, you truly have earned a well-deserved rest.

From the Principal |
Dear Parents and Friends,
Tim Hoile retires as MDC Director
This week we sadly farewell Mr Tim Hoile who is retiring after 21 years having established and developed the Marine Discovery Centre into a well-recognised and respected excursion destination for school children to visit. In all, Tim has given 36 years to Catholic Education in South Australia, having also taught at St Augustine’s Salisbury in the early 80s. On Tuesday evening a farewell function was held for Tim to acknowledge his contribution and to give thanks for his leadership and vision establishing the Marine Discovery Centre.
Star of the Sea School has much to be grateful for. Often when you mention Star of the Sea, people will say, “Oh yeah, that’s where the Marine Centre is.” Over the years the relationship has been one of mutual benefit and today as the result of Tim’s work our children enjoy marine trails on the beach with Jacinta and Karno, and marine lessons in the MDC with Lisa Russell.

Jesus was rejected in his Hometown Mk 6: 1- 6
Jesus left there and went to his hometown, accompanied by his disciples. When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed.
“Where did this man get these things?” they asked. “What’s this wisdom that has been given him? What are these remarkable miracles he is performing? Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.
Jesus said to them, A prophet is not without honour except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.” He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. He was amazed at their lack of faith.

Last Wednesday the Year 4 classes held a “Travel Expo”, where they presented the research work on a country of their choice. Everyone also construct a model of a famous landmark or environment from that particular country. Many students also brought traditional foods for tasting and dressed in traditional clothing. There was a positive buzz in the rooms.

Thanks from Tim Hoile |
My sincere thanks to everyone at Star of the Sea.
I would like to convey my sincere thanks to everyone at Star of the Sea for the love and support I’ve received the past 36 years, including almost 21 years at the Marine Discovery Centre. I’ve loved every minute of my time and I know that I’ve been truly blessed to have had my Principals, Staff, School Board, MDC Board, students, parents and parish involvement. The centre is a reflection of our wonderful school community.
My sincere thanks also to Ursula Quack, Elisa Russell, Jacinta Lamacchia, Karno Martin and our incredible volunteers. I hope the Marine Discovery Centre receives the support it deserves to continue to grow and evolve.
Very best wishes,
Tim Hoile

Middle School Dance Performance |
Last night I had the privilege of attending the Middle School dance night at the Christian Centre.
Titled the Greatest Show we were not disappointed because it was exactly that. What a great evening of entertainment. The dance moves were precise, spectacular and awesome. Important skills such as teamwork, cooperation, following instructions, supporting each other and remembering the moves were all evident. My sincere thanks the Middle School teachers, Mrs Laurendi, Ms Santillo, Mrs Pattinson, Mrs Manera and Mr Mazey.
We were all treated to a feel good night and left exhilarated and full of hope. Well done Middle School kids!
Mr De Tullio
