Our Eco-Warriors

The Eco-Warriors have been very busy since the beginning of the year! They have been helping with countless sustainability-focused jobs around the school. Students have assisted with taking visiting schools on sustainability tours, collecting and sorting the 10c container bottles with the Year 3s, presented recycling presentations to classrooms, conducted bin audits of the grandstand bins and helped classes paint leafs for the eco-challenge tree. Students have also been busy cleaning the chicken coop, turning the compost, shredding paper and selling Worm Tea. It has been great to see so much enthusiasm and passion with even the smelliest and dirtiest of tasks!

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Friends,

Welcome back for start of the second semester. I hope all families enjoyed the holiday break and managed to spend some quality family time together. Whilst I wasn’t able to get away, I did manage to spend time at home catching up on many odd jobs around the house.  However it is now back to school and I wish all students and families a rewarding Term 3 filled with many learning experiences and opportunities to shine.

Last week, the school sent home the Term 3 calendar of events and it was quite easy to see that this term will be another full term of exciting activities. Book Week, School Photos, First Communion and Confirmation, class excursions, assemblies, swimming lessons, Music Showcase Night, Catholic School's Music Festival, and the annual Art Night are just a few of the events that will be on this term. Please enter the relevant dates for your child in the family diary and I encourage your support and attendance.

Importance of Children's Friendships

It doesn't matter how old you are, having friends provides support and promotes good mental health and wellbeing. For children, friendships are very important for their social and emotional development because it is through friendships, children learn how to relate with others and they develop social skills as they teach each other how to be good friends. When I interview parents when enrolling their children, one of the top things parents want from school is for their child to have friends.

Research tells us that children who have friends are more likely to be self-confident and perform better at school. When children have difficulty making friends or keeping friends it often leads to feelings of isolation and being unhappy with themselves.

John 6:24–35

Once the crowd realised that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into

the boats and went to Capernaum in search of Jesus.

Jesus the Bread of Life

When they found him on the other side of the lake, they asked him, “Rabbi,p when did you get here?”

26 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me,q not because you saw the signsr I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. 27 Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that enduress to eternal life,t which the Son of Manu will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his sealv of approval.”

28 Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?”

29 Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believew in the one he has sent.”

From the Deputy Principal

Hello Friends

I wish all members of the School Community a very warm ‘Welcome Back’ to school for Term 3. They say that the third quarter of a Football grand final is the premiership quarter. Games can be won and lost during the third term. In our school terms, we are not talking about winning and losing, but rather, consolidating and extending learning. The third term at school provides students with the opportunity to extend and challenge themselves with regards to all areas of the curriculum. Term 3 is a full 10 weeks of learning. As we all know, Term 4 is comprised of many whole school events and is shorter than all the other terms. So my hope for all of our students this term is that new skills are learnt, learning mistakes are made, knowledge is extended, and fears are conquered. There are so many things to look forward to this term with the Year 6 and Year 7 Canberra trip, Catholic School Music Festival, Sacramental celebrations, Book Week and Sporting Carnivals, just to name a few.

Children’s University Australia provides students with exciting free range learning activities outside their day to day school work, whether that be before school, lunch time, after school, in the school holidays etc. The best part about Children’s University Australia is that it’s voluntary, so children get to choose what activities they would like to do, where, when and how they would like to do them. The things students learn about will always be able to be connected to something that could studied at a university.

There are many students involved in the Children's University program here at Star of the Sea School. Congratulations to all of the students taking part in this fantastic learning opportunity.  Details regarding the awesome Graduation Ceremony can be found here.

Roof Fund Appeal

Henley Parish Roof Fund Appeal – Good News!

We thank everyone for their extremely generous support of our Roof Fund Appeal so far.

Due to the great management of the project by our BAPS team, final costs for the new roof stayed well under predictions, more than expected was received from the sale of old lead roofing, and some insurance funding was granted for water damage to our heating blanket and ceiling.
