Deputy Principal |
Hello Friends
I start this newsletter with some sad news and ask that you keep Joe De Tullio and his family in your prayers. Sadly Joe’s dad, Cosimo, passed away on Saturday evening and is now at peace. Joe is away from school this week and will return to school next week.
Term 4 has begun in earnest and students have returned eager and ready to recommence their learning and finish 2018 on a high.
The term ahead promises to be action packed with many celebration to look forward to.
Mission Week
Monday 22 October saw the beginning of Mission Week. We celebrated a beautiful Fouders’ Day Mass celebrating the lives and work of Sr. Catherine McAuley and Jules Chevalier. We also celebrated and gave thanks for Fr John, Fr Krish and Fr Paul and the work they they do in our school and for the blessings that their presence in our lives provide. Celebrations this week have continued with Thankful Tuesday and the appearance of our hands of gratitude around the school Wholehearted Wednesday was a chance to donate to a Catholic Charity and, Trading Thursday; an opportunity to trade a book for a gold coin donation Fossicking Friday will occur tomorrow where children will have the chance to care for the environment and clean up our school and surrounding environments.
School Ball Bright Nights - City Lights
The Ball Committee are in the final stages of planning. I thank you for your class basket contributions and your support of this important fundraiser for our school. I am reliably told that there are some tremendous silent auction items available for bidding on. I look forward to seeing you, at the Pullman Hotel for a great night. Special thanks to the Ball Committee, for their tireless work and enthusiasm.

School Fees 2018 |
School Fees statements will be sent out early next week. If you are making regular payments from either a bank account or credit card, please ensure your payments are sufficient to cover any additional fees. Otherwise you will need to make additional payments to cover these fees via Bpay, QKR or payment to the School Office as they fall due. This will ensure your school fee account is cleared by the end of the year.
It is the school’s responsibility to ensure all fees are collected in a timely manner, so I would appreciate all school fees outstanding to be cleared by the end of the year, unless there is a prior agreed arrangement in place.
Just a reminder: Parents/Caregivers who have contributed $140 or more to the Planned Giving Programme of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, Henley Beach for the 2018 calendar year may apply for a full rebate of the School Capital Levy and/or the Diocesan Capital Levy. Application forms are available from the School Office. You will need to take the form to the Parish Office for approval.
If at any time you are experiencing difficulties paying your school fees, or have any queries, please contact me on 8115 7400 to discuss the matter confidentially.

Finance Manager

City of Charles Sturt Council |
Our family, Harrison, David, Jane and I, are proud to be part of the Star of the Sea community.
Jane and I have been married for 12 years and our two sons attend Star of the Sea. I attended Grange Primary School and St Michael’s College and am Patron of the Henley & Grange Baseball Club. Having spent almost ten years living in Henley Beach and most of my 42 years living in the City of Charles Sturt, I know the area and am passionate about making it an even better place to live.
I am running for Council to be a strong voice for residents who want to see better value for money from their council rates.
During the last term of Council, I opposed the relocation and downsizing of the Henley Beach Library, supported the removal of parking meters from Henley Square and proposed a better deal from Council for our surf lifesaving clubs.

From the APRIM |
Love one another, bear with one another, and let charity guide you in all your life. St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, 1909.
Mission Week has been an enjoyable week, with lovely weather, and our staff and children engaged in Liturgy and many Social Justice activities. I hope that your children have been sharing these stories and events with you. Our ‘Many Hands Make Light Work’ is seen everyday in so many ways around Star of the Sea. One little girl in Year Two was very upset because she had forgotten a gold coin for Wholehearted Wednesday, but a classmate comforted her and shared her money with her, saying she could just fix it up tomorrow, when she did remember. Their teacher came to me with tears in her eyes! Our Thankful Tuesday pop up ‘Gratitude Garden of hands’ is a colourful addition to our space and I have seen children lovingly tending everyone’s hands, just like a real garden. The Library has been at the heart of our week and our ‘Hands up for Giving Hearts’ look fantastic on the cupboards. Please come and visit. Trading Thursday has been a bonaza of books, stalls and lots of fun. Don’t forget FOSSICKING FRIDAY and send along some tongs or gloves as we clean up our environment.
How can you be involved? Join our Mobile Muster. Let your old and broken phones find new life by bringing them in to school and fight the ‘War on Waste’ as part of the safe, government accredited recycling project.
Stella Foley, APRIM

Prayer |
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
I have not come to abolish the Law or the Prophets but to fulfill them. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:16-19

City of Charles Sturt Council |
My name is Kenzie van den Nieuwelaar and I’m a candidate for the Henley Ward in the up-coming City of Charles Sturt Council elections.
I’ve been a proud resident of Henley Beach for over 25 years and am lucky enough to have been able to raise a family in this beautiful community. My children have attended Henley Community Kindergarten, Star of the Sea School and are currently students at St Michael’s College. I have been actively involved throughout their schooling and have loved being a part of their education, including the community spirit that comes with it.
