I am continuing to receive updates from the Catholic Education Office regarding the Coronavirus and what the school would do in the event of a shut down. Catholic Education SA have a critical management team which is developing protocols and strategies that will be provided to schools.
CESA have advised that all of our schools follow the advice and direction of the Australian Government Department of Health and SA Health authorities - this will be SA's Chief Medical Officer who has similar powers as the police to enforce action. SA Health officials will contact schools if they even suspect there is an issue with someone associated with the school. We will then be under their direction for any action. In the meantime, it is business as usual.
In the event of a shutdown, parents will be notified by a number of methods - email, sms message and Skoolbag. I am aware that parents may receive multiple emails but I would rather this than have you miss the important information.
Toilet Cleaning
As an added precaution I have organised for our school toilets to be cleaned twice a day, at the end of recess and at the end of the day. Soap and sanitiser will be maintained in all toilets and classrooms.
Washing Hands Correctly
Teachers will be explicitly teaching children how to effectively wash their hands and to cover sneezes and coughs.
Flu Shots
It has been mentioned in the media that Flu shots is one way to protect ourselves from the Coronavirus. Although this will not protect you from the Coronavirus it will help. The Australian Government recommends everyone aged six months and over to be immunised against seasonal flu.
Influenza is the most common preventable disease in Australia, and while it tends to cause mild symptoms, it can also cause very serious illness in otherwise healthy people — and lead to hospitalisation and even death.
Vaccination is a safe and effective way to protect yourself, and people who get vaccinated are at lower risk of getting an infection (and developing serious disease) than those who do not.
This email is not designed to panic you but to be aware that plans are in place to ensure the safety of all students and staff at the school.
If you have any questions or information that we may have overlooked, please contact me.
