Newsletter Term 1 Week 11
Dear Families,
As Term 1 draws to a close, we take a moment to reflect on the many blessings and achievements of this first term. It has been a wonderful start to 2025 at Star of the Sea, filled with rich learning experiences, joyful moments, and a strong sense of community.
We are incredibly proud of the way our students have embraced new challenges, formed positive friendships, and demonstrated kindness, curiosity, and resilience in their learning. From classroom milestones to extracurricular participation and success, it has truly been a term filled with learning, laughter, and growth. Our dedicated staff have worked with great care and passion to support each child's academic and personal development, and we thank them for their commitment and dedication to our students.
We are also deeply grateful to our families for your ongoing support and partnership. Special thanks to our P&F for the wonderful events already this term, including the Family Fun Day, Donut Day, and the Reception Parent Community Lawn Bowls event, each contributing to the vibrant spirit of our school community.
STAFFING NEWS
In staffing news, we wish Leanne Stokes and Jacinta Walton farewell as they enjoy new experiences and adventures in retirement. Both Leanne and Jacinta worked tirelessly supporting our young people in their Education Support Officer roles for many years. Both Leanne and Jacinta will be dearly missed, and we thank them for their wonderful contributions to our school community. We also bid farewell to Karyn Burlow and thank her for her work in the finance management of our school over the past two years. We wish her all the best as she embarks on her new chapter.
THRIVING PEOPLE EVENT
Recently, a group of our Indigenous students proudly represented our school at Catholic Education South Australia’s Thriving People event. This special gathering celebrated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, identity, and leadership within our Catholic school communities. Students participated in a range of workshops and activities that deepened their understanding of culture, strengthened their sense of belonging, and built connections with students from other schools. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to engage, learn, and celebrate the richness of Indigenous culture, and we are incredibly proud of their involvement. Thank you to Jess Watson (Key ATSI Teacher) for arranging this and Connor McLeod and Kylie Casey for assisting our students on this day.
G.A.T.E.WAYS Eureka Program – Plot Twist
This week, our school was proud to host the G.A.T.E.WAYS Eureka program, welcoming 22 of our talented students from Star of the Sea alongside approximately 15 students from neighbouring Catholic schools. The workshop, titled Plot Twist, focused on language and literature, offering students an exciting opportunity to explore creative storytelling, character development, and narrative innovation. It was wonderful to see so many enthusiastic young writers collaborating, thinking critically, and letting their imaginations soar. We are incredibly proud of our students for their engagement and creativity throughout the day!
ARTALIA DAY
Our Artalia Day was a great success and warmly received by our students today. Their engagement and enthusiasm were evident as they participated in a wide range of creative and fun activities. From art and cultural activities to dance, music, and language, the day offered something for everyone to enjoy.
A heartfelt thank you to Ms. Condelli and Ms. Lata for organising such a wonderful day. One of the clear highlights was seeing the big grins on the children’s faces as they enjoyed their gelato—a sweet end to a vibrant celebration.
WINTER UNIFORM
A reminder that the Winter Uniform is to be worn from the beginning of Term 2.
Children in Years R-2 continue to wear the Sports Uniform. However, as the weather cools the children can wear the school sports jacket and tracksuit pants.
Students in Years 3-6 are to wear the winter formal uniform when they are not involved in activities that require the sports uniform. Please find below a link to the Uniform Policy.
PARISH CAR PARK
Please note that on Wednesday 16 April from 9.30am, the Parish Car Park will be closed to allow for important maintenance works. These works are scheduled during the school holidays to minimise disruption. Thank you.
As we head into the holidays, we encourage everyone to take this time to rest, recharge, and enjoy the slower pace of family life. May this Easter season bring you moments of peace, joy, and renewal.
We look forward to welcoming everyone back for Term 2 on Tuesday, April 29 (please note that Monday is a Pupil Free Day). Until then, we wish you a safe, joyful, and restful break.
Go gently,
Annette Diassinas and Kelly Manera

Farewell Father Manu
It is with heartfelt sadness that we say farewell to Father Manu, who has been called to return to serve his community in India.
Father Manu has spent the past 12 years in Australia, with the last two years as Parish Priest at Henley Beach. During this time, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with him in our shared commitment to the Religious Identity and Mission of our school and parish community.
Father Manu is an exceptionally generous and dedicated priest, always willing to offer his time, wisdom, and guidance. I have deeply valued his support, particularly in coordinating the Sacramental Program and in preparing the many Masses and liturgies we’ve celebrated together.
We wish Father Manu every blessing in the next chapter of his ministry. His kindness, leadership, and presence will be truly missed.
Holy Week
This week, all our classes engaged in a series of enriching learning opportunities centered around the Passion Narrative of Jesus.
Students delved into the account of Jesus' Triumphant Entry into Jerusalem, exploring the three 3 Worlds of the Text from Matthew's Gospel. Each class participated in a prayer liturgy within their classrooms, where they shared bread and juice, recalling the significant words of Jesus from the Last Supper: "Do this in memory of me."
Following this, all classes took part in a moving and deeply reflective liturgy in the Chapel. Teachers guided the students through the Stations of the Cross.
These meaningful experiences have empowered our students to deepen their understanding of Jesus' teachings and strengthen their faith and devotion to God.
Easter Liturgy – He is risen!
When we return next term, our school will gather in front of the crosses at 2:00pm on the oval to give thanks for God and to celebrate Jesus’ resurrection.
I wish all our families a beautiful and blessed Easter break and look forward to seeing you all in Term 2.
Kind regards
