I think I would have to agree with the Archbishop’s views and certainly there is much to be said for the immediacy of communication that facilitates the rapid flow of information however, there is a lot to be said about hearing the tone of one’s voice or seeing them face to face. Spending time with young people is certainly an eye opener to a different world.
It is this context that I remind parents that the school has in place a mobile phone policy that exists to keep our students safe. Essentially it requires our students to keep their mobile phones off during the day and they should be kept in their bags, lockers or kept with the teacher. The inappropriate use of phones to take photos or movies at school is prohibited and may result in police action. Should parents need to contact their child they are asked to use the school’s landline. The very fact that this policy exists and that I need to remind our students and parents of its content is a sign of the times.
