Joe reported that the school had received the 2018 NAPLAN results for Year 3, 5 and 7. Joe explained that Star of the Sea was one of twenty Catholic Schools who sat the test online and that the was still waiting for additional information so that previous test results could be compared with the online test data. However, Joe did provide year level results that showed the school had performed very well against the National Minimum Standards and improvements were evident in all year levels. The school is waiting for further information so as to interrogate the results to inform teaching for 2019.
The School Board spent time discussing the structure of classrooms for 2019 and where various year levels will be located. In 2019 the school will have 3 classes of Reception, 3 classes of Year 1, 2 classes of Year 2, 3 classes of Year 3, 2 classes of Year 4, 3 classes of Year 5 and 2 classes of Year 6. This structure will require 14 classes to move rooms. Board Members agreed that it is not practical for teachers to move classrooms whilst at the same time caring for children. It was therefore agreed that the school will break up for the school holidays on Wednesday 13 December. This will allow the teachers to move classrooms including equipment, desks and chairs etc on Thursday 14th December so that rooms can be set up for next year. Board Members believed that this would be the best solution to ensure least disruption to students in the last week of the school year.
All other reports were tabled and accepted.
The next meeting of the School Board will be Monday 12 November.
