The results of the recent DISA Survey were shared with the Board. Joe explained that the 5 key areas of the school such as School Success and Achievement, Strategic Foundations, Community Cohesiveness, Schoolwide Pedagogy, Resources and Professional Learning had all grown and improved since the 2012 survey. In this same period the index of school capital had also improved.
The summary statement from the University of Queensland who conducted the survey said “All stakeholders at Star of the Sea see the school as a good school and that it is seen in the community to have a highly professional staff and an important place for learning. Overall, the Students and Parents indicate strong support for the teaching and learning and the use of resources to support the teaching.”
The Board was also informed of a CESA change of policy that in 2019 all Catholic Schools will commence enrolling Term 3 Receptions. This will mean that children born between 1st May and 31st October will have the choice of starting school in Term 3 and have 6 terms of Reception. The school Board discussed the implications of this change in policy and instructed the Principal to do further research about this decision and how it will impact on the school in 2019.
All members of the School Board wish the Star of the Sea school community the very best for the remainder of the year and thank the many parents who have supported the school in so many areas of school life.
