School Uniform and Grooming

As we end Week 2 of Term 2, it is a good opportunity to check that your child is in the correct uniform for winter. I have noticed that some students are wearing sports uniforms on days that they don’t have sports lessons and some students are still wearing the summer shirt. Please ensure your child comes to school in the correct uniform for the day. Pink Uniform Slips will be sent home as of next week if your child is not wearing the correct uniform. I also remind families that long hair needs to be pulled back and tied, or even cut for some of our boys, no nail polish is to be worn to school and only one set of gold or silver sleeper or stud earrings are to be worn. We appreciate your attention to this request.

Parish News – Multicultural Day and Love in a Bag

Our wonderful Parish continues to provide connected opportunities of community and outreach with some new initiatives I would love to share with you. The first is our Parish Multicultural Day being held after 9:30am Mass on Sunday 19th May. This Mass is also our Year 6 family Mass and Commissioning Mass for our school staff, school board and P&F members. After mass, there will be a celebration over at the school recognising the wonderful array of diverse cultures that make up our parish and school community. There will be food, tasting, games, dancing, entertainment and more. It is a free event, 10:00am-3:00pm and we would love to see you there! I have heard on the grape vine that Father Krish and our beloved Principal, Joe De Tullio will be doing a bollywood dance routine……I think we all need to be there to see that! Please see attached flyer for more details.

This year, the parish outreach group are also continuing with the initiative from last year, Love in a Bag, where bags of love with winter essentials were packed and sent to a variety of homeless groups around Adelaide. We had an overwhelming response last year, with a desired amount of 50-70 bags of donated goods being planned and in the end we managed to send out over 230 bags of love out to the community. There is a display at the back of the church with all the items that can be donated each week. I have included an image in this week’s newsletter for you to look at too. If you would like to donate, feel free to send in items to your child’s class or even straight over to the Church. We appreciate your generosity ensuring a successful outreach again this year.

Yard Supervision before and after school

I remind all families that there is a teacher on duty in the school yard from 8.20am. Children arriving before this time need to attend OSHC. From 8.20am all students are expected to be in the courtyard or breezeway. The convent courtyard Nature Play, oval and playground are not areas for play before school. Many children are playing in ‘out of bounds’ areas after school. As a result, we are finding school yard equipment being left around the school after families have gone home. I remind families that children need to wait on the Military Rd and Seaview Rd location for collection. If children are waiting for collection in other areas of the school, they are not under teacher supervision and need to be waiting for adults to collect them rather than playing chasey, kicking ball or playing other games. Staff appreciate your support in this area.

Mother’s Day

Last but definitely not least, a big shout out and thanks to all our amazing mothers. May you feel loved and appreciated this Sunday! I hope those that were able to make the morning tea felt valued today. Enjoy the day with your family and on the days when you are pushed to your limits, cop the attitude and think how can I fit everything in one day, remember this little nugget…… “My kids asked me what was it like to be a mum, so I woke them up at 2am and told them that my sock came off!”

Happy Mother’s Day to all our beautiful mums.

Have a great weekend!
