Board Talk

20.06.19

Deanne Stephanos presented the results of the School Canteen Survey and highlighted key trends.  The response was an overwhelming 181 families who took part in the survey. Significant responses were:

  • Vast majority of families order lunch once a week. 72% compared to 88% for recess
  • Combined 81% believe that it is important to have a canteen at the school
  • 35% believe it is important to have a canteen five days a week
  • 95% of families primary purpose of the canteen is a treat or break from homemade lunches
  • Price is overwhelmingly NOT the issue for students having a lunch order (86%) and 69% responded that menu does not discourage ordering a lunch
  • Other comments focused on the canteen menu, healthy food choices and unhealthy choices, the need for rainbow food, more fresh choices etc.

The Board agreed that further discussion and investigation was needed. Joe will ask the students to take a survey so that a student voice is added to the data. Deanne will contact other school Canteens for a copy of menus for comparison. The canteen review will remain on the Board agenda so that necessary recommendations can be made.

Ryan Scott reported that Carmen Bishop has settled into her new role as Business and Partnerships Manager at the Marine Discovery Centre. Ryan presented a report to the Board that included operations update, a marketing update, and a summary of contacts with key partners. Upcoming action items included the registration of the MDC for the SALA Festival and the Adelaide Fringe. Given that Carmen has only been at the MDC for 7 weeks the Board is very pleased with the progress made and the new funding opportunities that lie ahead.

The School Board wishes all families and staff a restful end of Term 2 holiday break and thanks Kelly Manera for her work and support over the last two terms as Acting Deputy Principal.
