Canberra Trip

Our Year 6 Students undertook an educational tour of the national capital between September 11 and September 13. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $60.00 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

Our students were outstanding during the entire trip. They certainly did themselves, their families and our school proud. We visited:

  • The Royal Australian Mint
  • Australian War Memorial
  • Anzac Parade
  • Questacon - National Science and Technology Centre
  • Australian Institute of Sport
  • National Museum Australia
  • Ina Potter Foundation Technical Learning Centre
  • High Court of Australia
  • Parliament House

From 4.15am Wednesday 11 September upon arriving at the Adelaide Airport until Friday evening, landing back in Adelaide at 8.15pm on 13 September, the students were engaged and enthralled by the places they visited. Our accommodation this year was the Australian Institute of Sport and we also enjoyed breakfast and dinner there and witnessed some athletes training. I am positive that the students slept well upon returning home and will remember the trip fondly.

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.
