This year's showcase of talent is even more impressive as last year the school's Music Program lost both our Year 7 and Year 6 students with the move of Year 7 to high school. Losing two year levels of experience and leadership was never going to be easy. To the children's credit, our Year 6s and Year 5s stepped up to the challenge, with great leadership and working extra hard to make sure the Senior Band and Rock Band were able to perform at such a high standard.
With over 150 children performing on the night it was a real 'feel good' evening.
Thank you to Cathie Turner who does an exceptional job teaching music R-7 as well as coordinating the Instrumental Program and, mentoring and conducting the Junior Band, Senior Band and Rock Band. It is great to see so many Star of the Sea students learning an instrument and going on to secondary school and continuing their enjoyment of music. Well done Cathie for your hard work behind the scenes.
Our thanks also to the dedicated instrumental teachers for their patience and care throughout the year:
John Radcliff - guitar, bass and rock band
Kirsty Cox - flute, saxophone and clarinet
Susan Ferguson - singing and choirs
Max Grynchuk - trumpet
Jayden McKelliff - drums
Milana Vikhiycova - piano
Helen Wedding - piano
Nikki Von Bertouch - violin and cello
Thank you to St Michael's College and Tim Donovan for allowing the Intermediate Pop Vocal group and the Senior Concert Band to perform for us. It was great to see what we can aspire to become if we keep practising and maintain our passion for music.
We also extend our thanks to our parents who value the Music Program and who support the children with their encouragement and patience listening to many hours of practice.
Thank you everyone for a great night!
