From the Deputy Principal

Hello Friends

It was great to welcome spring officially on Tuesday this week. I always look for the first signs of spring in the garden at home and usually it’s the yellow Genista trees. Sure enough on Monday morning there were tufts of yellow on the branches.  I do hope though that there has been sufficient rain across winter to support our farmers and primary producers.

Lost Property
Our lost property box is overflowing with lost items from around the school. Many items in the box are not labelled and therefore it is very difficult to return the items to the rightful owner. Please label all items that come to school. There are a lot of lunchboxes and food containers in there at present and some of these items are quite expensive. On Friday 11 September the Lost Property Box will be emptied of any items that are not labelled and these items will be recycled.

Games and Apps
I have written many times in the newsletter over recent years about the importance of knowing what games and apps children are using and interacting with, particularly in the ‘online space’. Having spent some time recently working with students about cyber safety and cyber responsibility, I feel it timely to remind parents again of the importance of cyber safety. I strongly encourage parents to check the age rating of games and apps that children have access to. Just like movie ratings, these gaming ratings and media apps are there as a guide to help protect children from themes and images they are not ready to handle. A couple of useful questions to pose: Is my child accessing a device without my supervision; Do I know who my child is interacting with online; What is the age ratings on the games and apps my child is using…

School Hats for Term 4
I remind parents that in Term 4, students are required to wear their school hats. It may be timely to check that the school hat fits your child and that it has their name clearly written on it.
